Yalitza LaFontaine, North Alabama Organizer


Yalitza LaFontaine was born in Puerto Rico to a family dedicated to social and religious service. She has lived in Huntsville for 12 years with her three children who are now 16, 19, and 25. She has been an educator for 15 years, most recently with the Intensive Language and Culture department of the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She has her Master’s in English, focusing on the ESL/EFL education. Recent social and political shifts have driven her toward joining the fight for immigrant rights.  Outside of word, she likes spending time with her family, gardening, knitting, reading, sports, and staying active.
