Sarai Portillo, Executive Director
Sarai joined the staff of the Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice as the new Executive Director in October 2015 after working at the Miami Workers Center for almost a decade, organizing with immigrants and African-Americans for racial justice and workers’ rights.
Most recently Saraí served as the Interim Executive Director for the Miami Workers Center, where she also held positions as Program Director and Lead Organizer. She also worked as the Field Manager for Florida New Majority and as a canvasser for Mi Familia Vota. She has served on several boards including board officer of the Florida Immigrant Coalition (FLIC) for four years as the Secretary, and is entering her second year of board service with Alianza Americas. She’s also a volunteer with ‘Friends Of Broward Detainees’ a site visitation program at Broward Transitional Center. Saraí is a Popular Education Trainer and a Social Justice Interpreter and Translator. She holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Social Anthropology from Escuela Nacional de Antropología e Historia (ENAH) in Mexico City.
